this is it. As unrealistic as it seems to me now, I'm getting on a plane to Italy in about four hours. Very hard to imagine. I'm going to just get myself to the airport and see what happens.
I'll be back on the 19th. I may try and post here or. To flickr in the meantime. Catch ya on the flipside!

I went for a nice walk tonight in the setting sunlight. More pics from the walk here if you're interested :)

why does this taste funny?

As I contemplated my cocoa krispies, I realized it was because it had milk in it.
My brother and I spent every other weekend with my dad. Saturday morning we would get up and find the 8-pack of mini-sugar cereal boxes (not allowed at mom's!) and divvy them up. Peter always started with Frosted Flakes. Then I would pick the Cocoa Krispies. Back to him for Corn Pops, which would make me whiny and I would settle for Honey Smacks. This went on until we hit Corn Flakes and Total.
Then on to the couch for 4 hours of cartoons. 8am-12pm. My brother and I, working our way through boxes of sugar cereal, watching smurfs and he-man.
I wish this was a more endearing memory.

There's a lot of things I haven't been able to do for myself lately. Right now, this seems like something to be proud of, a homemade meal.

We may all need to relocate to Eqypt to take over these very cool abandoned buildings. It's either here or Japan, people.
EDIT: I could probably also be talked into Bokor Hill Station, Cambodia.

From it's history page on wikipedia: "The town was built as a resort by the colonial French settlers. The centrepiece of the resort was the grand Bokor Palace Hotel & Casino, complemented by shops, a post office, poopstaina church and the Royal Apartments."

How it gets done

This is a pretty funny collection of "________ do it with ________" one liners. Worth a perusal!
Find yourself:
Accountants do it with double entry.
Dungeon masters do it behind a screen.
Historians study who did it.
Librarians do it by the book.
Mathematicians do it as continuous function.
Programmers peek before they poke. (please explain this one!)
Teachers make you do it till you get it right.
More good ones:
Spellcasters do it with their rods/staves/wands.
Paladins do it good or not at all.
Pirates do it with stumps.
Lions do it with pride.
Cuckoos do it by proxy.
Post ones you find :)

Picture this as a "The more you know" Public Service Announcement:
I walk onto an elevator wearing headphones. There is one guy on the elevator. He has pushed "2", I push "1". I step toward the back, he stays in the front.
doors shut. guy turns completely around to face me.
guy: Hey! are you listening to an iPod?
me: yeah
guy: what kind is it?
me: actually it's an iPhone
guy: wow, you must have spend your whole tax refund on that!
me: ...um.. no..
*doors open on floor 2 - He pauses and then gets off the elevator*
voiceover guy: Pointless conversation is just that, pointless.
*cue: "the more you know" dee-doo-daaah daahh jingle*

Apr. 17th, 2008 | 01:16 pm

His hours are 9am-2pm. He doesn't carry the emergency pager.
But if he's got a lot of unpacking to do, I think it's totally reasonable that he close the office!

forced walk
Apr. 16th, 2008 | 08:13 pm

So after my big exercise commitment post, I hadn't done anything. So today, I had to make it happen. I forced myself out the door. I went for a 45 minute walk, went up and down the big stairs twice which made my legs wobble like crazy, and took some pictures that I'm really happy with. Phew.

... you get fat.
It's come to my attention (I brought it to my own attention)that after starting a fully seated job and becoming deliciously "curvy", that my weight didn't magically stop accruing. I continue to gain weight and continue to grow out of my clothes.
So it's time to admit I have a problem. That, as I close in on 30, I may have to actively address my weight. That waking up, sitting in the car driving to work, sitting at work for 8 hours, sitting in the car to drive home, sitting on the couch eating dinner and then laying back down in my bed, may not be a healthy lifestyle.
So here's the plan: I'm going to do the very least I can do - because it's what is most likely to happen.
I'm going to go on walks more often. I like going for walks in my neighborhood. There are tons of interesting houses, and I listen to Hamish & Andy (super funny radio guys from Australia). I could do this more often.
I bought a Wii and I just pre-ordered WiiFit. It seems silly and possibly very low impact/difficulty, but it's more than I'm doing now, and that's the order of the day. Look forward to me pulling moves such as these:

I'm *just* shy of 180 right now. I'd be happy at 170-165. I'd be happy if the Wii line graph doesn't go up. Here goes nothing.

don't show this to my boyfriend...
Apr. 14th, 2008 | 09:32 am

While contemplating the fact that I am a horrible dice roller (really. it's out of hand. I cannot roll higher than a 12 on a 20-sided. makes me sad.) and thinking that maybe all I really need is some new dice (even though I know this won't help, as I already have bought upwards of 15 d20s for this very reason), I came across this site: RPG Overstock. While they don't have a huge selection of stuff (Eberron and d20 books seemed the most interesting for people I know), they do have a number of dice sets for $3.90 (also, it seems likely they might have some D&D 3.5 once 4.0 comes around).
Maybe this time it will be different...

Seriously, does it get better than this?
My new Eberron game just wrapped up it's opening salvo and it was great. The four us (a Shifter rogue, Godless cleric, Dragonmarked sorceress and am/fm recieving Warforged)have returned from the scary planeworld we were transported to - unified and sans our tarzan and vampiric NPCs - ready to get down to business! It's going to be fun :)
